Not all money is happy money.

I believe being someone’s VA is a partnership. It may not be my business, but I’m invested, too. I want to see my clients win. I care about their success, their goals, and the vision they have for their business.

But I can’t care more about their business than they do. That’s where the friction starts.

When you’re pouring your energy into someone who isn’t equally committed, it’s draining.

Not every client is your forever client. Not every customer deserves your time, products, or services. And that’s okay.

It took me years to learn this. I wish someone had told me this at the start. It would have saved me so much heartache and so many tears.

We all end up experiencing this eventually, so I want you to know now that it's okay to protect your peace.

Fire that client.

Leave the guilt for forgetting to water your plants, again.

My Red Flags:

1️⃣ Unclear Expectations: New clients may struggle to articulate their needs, that’s normal. Your job is to clearly outline tasks, write them down, and get their agreement. If they frequently change directions, rush results, or ask why they’re not viral yet, refer back to your SOW. Too much of this? Pause.

2️⃣ Poor Communication: I don’t need instant replies or poetic emails, but if a client is unresponsive or dismisses my questions, it’s a dealbreaker. Communication is key for any productive relationship.

3️⃣ Hesitant to Sign Contracts: If they won’t commit to a written agreement, it’s an instant pass. Clients who avoid contracts make me believe they won’t respect boundaries. Protect yourself, always use agreements.
