How Much Should You Charge as a Virtual Assistant?

Updated: Feb 20, 2025

Not knowing what to charge is holding you back.

So here’s the answer: $25/hour.

If you’ve nailed down your core services, industries to target, and are ready to start, I suggest this:

After 10 free projects (yes, I recommend this to start), charge $25/hour.

At 40 hours per week, that’s $1,000/week or $4,000/month.

Is it perfect? Maybe not.

But it’s enough to get started.

The real key is understanding your numbers.

You are your first client, so do some research:

1️⃣ Calculate monthly expenses + desired take-home pay (post-taxes).

2️⃣ Divide by billable hours to find your base rate.

3️⃣ Adjust based on skills/experience: Entry-level VAs charge $15-$30/hour, while specialized VAs charge $30-$70+.

4️⃣ Research your niche for market rates.

5️⃣ Add a percentage for taxes and non-billable time.

Pick a rate, start with it, and adjust as you go. Can be $25. Can be $15.

The point is to stop overthinking and start charging!
