Funding Your Why

Last Saturday, I was at the mall with my 9-year-old, watching him live his happy little life, bouncing around the trampoline and climb park without a worry in the world.

Sixteen hours later, I was sitting in the ER with my 22-year-old. The doctors said he was sepsis and admitted him to the cardiac ward. He spent seven days in the hospital. And I slept beside him every night, watching his chest rise and fall like when he was a newborn, same fear, same prayers. Thankfully, he recovered. But that first 24 hours reminded me exactly why I could never leave this remote-service life.

I’ve been that mom calling out of work because both kids had walking pneumonia, my stomach in knots wondering if I’d still have a job when they got better.

I’ve watched the new year roll around while everyone else was planning vacations with their shiny PTO, and I was rationing mine around the school calendar, saving days for the next inevitable fever.

I get it. Businesses have to run, work has to get done. But for the roles that can be flexible, remote work isn’t just a perk, it’s literally our livelihood.

That week in the hospital, I still worked. I wrote emails. Sent reports. Supported my clients.

But I did it from a chair next to my son’s bed, without asking anyone for permission.

That’s what “Funding Your Why” means for me.

Funding your why for you could mean generating income so you can travel the world, paying off debt, investing in a creative project, funding your next chapter in life, or simply buying back time for yourself.

It’s about creating flexibility to live life on your terms.

Virtual Assistant work doesn’t have to be your passion.

It doesn’t have to be glamorous.

It doesn’t have to be the center of attention.

It’s enough to be the vehicle that gives you options when life hits hard or when you have plans for something different.

Because the work itself might not be your dream, but what it makes possible absolutely can be.
